House at No.1 - House Tour

aka - The most overdue post in the history of blog land.

I did mean to write this before we started ripping the place apart - I did. I would like to say I have been busy working, or studying or something. But no, I just took a big hiatus from the internet world to focus on getting house sorted ready for moving date. Its not there yet.

Afraid this post is going to be intensely photo heavy.

You come in through the front door (obviously) and are immediately facing the stairs.

If you're really lucky you too might be greeted by that handsome fellow. Unfortunately the carpet is that garish, it's also going, fast.

The paneling runs through most of the hallway (and landing) and we're lucky enough to have the original doors throughout the house. Unfortunately we are also lucky enough to have anaglypta running through most of the house. Spoiler alert: that stuff is horrible to remove.

The front room is the living room, and the back room is the dining room, connected by glass sliding doors.

The entire downstairs, apart from the kitchen, is covered in the same carpet. The living room has had the chimney breast taken out, and the fire replaced by an electric one. 1970's I think.

The back room has a 1970's fire too, but this one is gas. Another feature original to the house is the 1930's plate shelf.

Then back out in the hallway there's a doorway with an alcove next to it.

This is where the under stairs cupboard is. Which I love, because it has a miniature of the other doors in the house. Cute. It's also useful, because it has a coat rack and shoe shelves in it, and it fits a hoover.

Past this is the kitchen. Which is a little bit dated maybe. But the units are in good condition. Unfortunately the floor isn't wood, it's vinyl, at this point we were planning on ripping it up to see what was underneath. But we came across a few problems with this.

Then through the Kitchen is the Utility and Garage. I don't think I could have had a house without a Utility. They are just so useful, and this one is huge. I have plans to put some insulation in, it is currently a single skin exterior wall, and then box in the ceiling. But it does have lots of shelving, and a unit where the boiler is which has enough room to plumb the washing machine underneath. The freezer and dryer are also going to live in here.

The garage is pretty roomy too, although it's now full of bags of rubble and old carpet. We're going to build a work bench in here, and get some storage for the bikes, etc. I also need to repaint the door, and we need to get a new light fitted because the electrics are a little bit dodgy.

As you go upstairs the landing light is directly facing you, rather than being on the ceiling. Not sure why, but I like it and its staying.

We also have a half landing, which I also love. As you can see the wood paneling runs throughout the landing too.

To the left as you get upstairs is the smallest bedroom, it is still a decent size though. This is going to be out study. It's got a couple of historic damp problems though, so we're thinking we might need to re-plaster. it's very green at the moment, green walls, green carpet and green light fitting. I really like the stepped roof though. The picture doesn't do the room justice, it is actually really bright in there.

The back bedroom has built in cupboard in the two alcoves, one of them has the hot and cold water tanks plus shelves. Looks like its been set up as an airing cupboard. The other is a wardrobe, think I might give that to him, there's no way my clothes will fit in there. This room also overlooks the garden.

The front room is going to be our bedroom. Is possibly my favorite room in the house. it has a stepped ceiling, like the little bedroom. But it also has a large bay, meaning there is just so much light in it. It also overlooks the church, which is nice, especially when you can hear the bells chiming. We've been really lucky with the location we're in!

The bathroom is also on the front of the house. It has the original 1930's tiles and bath, but none of the rest of the suite unfortunately. But I feel so lucky to have that bath, its huge! I think I could actually lie flat on the bottom of it if I wanted, although, I am quite short, so that's not hard.

The floor isn't tiled, it's vinyl like the kitchen. So the plan is to replace that eventually, but I'm in no hurry.

Last but not least we have the garden (as seen from the back bedroom). It needs nothing doing to it, apart from mowing, and we have a shed already in. We're the only house on our street without a neighbour directly behind, which is a bonus. Don't ask me what all the plants are though, because I have no idea. You can't really see, but there's a patio right near the house, the garden will have a lot of use providing we get some decent weather this summer!

Sorry, that was a massive post. But that is No. 1, soon to be Alfie's new home. As soon as we've finished with all the decorating that is!
